What to Pack

Alaska is known for ever-changing weather and a laid-back attitude. We recommend packing with a “Mountain Casual” style focused on comfort and convenience. When you venture outdoors, dress in layers to be prepared for the variable weather. The temperate costal climate here at Alyeska Resort is characterized by long summer days with temperatures in the high 60’s and winter temperatures in the mid 20’s.  Click here for average temperatures by month.

Winter Packing List:

• Waterproof jacket or shell with hood and insulated pants
• Insulation layers such as Primaloft ® or down jacket or vest, warm wool sweaters
• Base layers – fleece or other synthetic pants or tops
• Warm hat, scarf & gloves
• Good shoes with traction & warm socks
• Snow boots (not absolutely necessary, but handy!)
• Goggles

Summer Packing List:

• Rainproof wind-breaker with hood and pants
• Insulation layer such as a fleece jacket or vest, and non-cotton base layesr such as long-underwear and tops. Please note: If you thinking of participating in any water sports (such as rafting or kayaking), it is important that you bring items that are not cotton. Good choices are polypropylene, nylon, and fleece.
• Sturdy shoes & warm socks
• Light ski hat, scarves & gloves. May seem silly in the summer but these items will really keep you warm if it gets unseasonably cold, or if you’re feeling the effects of glacier-chilled wind, without adding a lot of weight.

• Sun Protection: lightweight, brimmed hat (sun and rain); sunglasses and sunscreen

Other Great Necessities:

• Camera and/or video camera. Don’t forget extra batteries, film, lens, chargers, USB cables and memory cards as these items are not as easily available for purchase in all parts of Alaska.
• Lap Top - The Hotel Alyeska offers complimentary wifi and DSL connections.
• Backpack or Tote Bag
• Small First-Aid Kit
• Necessary prescription drugs
• Additional toiletries
• Binoculars
• Watch and/or alarm clock - many tours have early start times!
• Swimsuit - The Hotel Alyeska has a wonderful saltwater pool and whirlpool with mountain views.
• Journal, books & magazines
• Ipod or MP3 player & charger
