Alyeska Resort Bike Park & Sitzmark Bar & Grill Open for Summer Operations on June 27
June 20, 2014 (Girdwood, AK) – Opening day for biking season is scheduled for Friday, June 27, 2014 and operations will continue through September 28, 2014.
Lift-accessed downhill mountain biking offers lift loading hours between 12:00 P.M. and 6:00 P.M. on Fridays, Saturdays and Sundays plus the holiday Monday of September 1. Bikers are able to load their bikes onto the Bear Cub Quad, Ted’s Express and Glacier Bowl Express to access the downhill mountain biking trails.
From the Daylodge Bike Hub, guests are able to rent downhill-specific bicycles with helmets and pads, from Kona Bicycles (www.konaworld.com). Other hard-tail mountain bikes are available for rent at the Daylodge location for the Girdwood Bike Path and non-lift accessed trails along the lower mountain. The rental shop also offers bike repair services and other bike-related accessories and parts.
Hungry bikers can refuel and “après bike” at the Sitzmark Bar & Grill. The Sitzmark is open on a complementary schedule to biking, with service starting at 12:00 P.M. Fridays through Sundays plus holiday Mondays during the bike season. The Sitzmark is also offering free live music every Saturday night beginning at 9:00 P.M.
Riders can purchase a summer season-long bike pass valid June 27 to September 28, 2014 for $250 (adults ages 19 and over) and $200 for students (ages 13-18), seniors (ages 60 & over), military and college students and $150 for children (ages 8–12). Those who have purchased their 2014/15 Season Pass for skiing can purchase an add-on bike option for $150. The day bike ticket rate is $30.
The resort offers two hour lessons with certified instructors that focus on proper stance, body control and motion as well as downhill riding techniques. The lessons are recommended for novice and intermediate riders and can be booked in the Daylodge Bike Hub. The minimum age to participate in lift-accessed biking is 8 years of age.
