Alyeska Resort Announces J Mascis and The Fog Shows at the Daylodge on March 30 & 31
February 6, 2012 (Girdwood, Alaska) – Alyeska Resort’s has continually focused on bringing musical talent to Southcentral Alaska between shows at the Sitzmark Bar & Grill venue and development of the Alyeska Summer Concert Series. Working with Red Light Management on a number of acts this winter, the resort is very excited to announce a special mid-winter concert with J Mascis and The Fog to be held at the Alyeska Daylodge on March 30 and 31, 2012. Doors will open at 7:00 P.M. and the opening act, Eric McFadden, will take the stage at 8:00 P.M. Tickets for the concerts are $20 in advanced and $25 at the door. The concerts are ages 21 and over.
J Mascis and The Fog is a project of Dinosaur Jr. front man J Mascis. Mascis played all the instruments and sang on the first Fog album, “More Light”, which was recorded in Mascis’ home studio and released on Artemis Records in 2000.
When it was time to tour, he enlisted the help of legendary bassist Mike Watt (FIREHOSE, The Minutemen) and drummer George Berz (Dinosaur Jr.). The trio toured the US, Europe, Japan and Australia, playing a mixture of songs from “More Light," Dinosaur Jr. back catalog, and Black Flag and Stooges covers.
In Europe, they were frequently joined onstage by Stooges guitarist Ron Asheton. A tragic tour van accident cut the group’s second European tour short, and Mascis returned to the studio to record the second Fog album, “Free So Free,” which was released in 2002 on Ultimatum Records.
In 2005, Mascis put The Fog project on hold in order to tend to other business, mainly the reformation of the original Dinosaur Jr. line-up. Now, with two Dinosaur Jr. studio albums under his belt, Mascis is ready to get fogged in again. The current lineup consists of bassist Kevin Sweeney and Kyle Spence (Harvey Milk, Fiddlehead, The Tom Collins), both of Athens, GA.
The Daylodge concerts will also feature opening act Eric McFadden, singer, songwriter and guitarist. Known for his guitar virtuosity, McFadden’s style is distinctly melodic with a rich, deep vocal tone.
According to the Denver Post, “McFadden is a six string virtuoso. His command of so many genres is accentuated with meticulously crafted songs. There’s the poppy twist on traditional psychadelia. Poetic yet sinisterly distorted punk. Rowdy rockabilly. Dark, foreboding grunge.”
A veteran of collaboration, having worked with the likes of Bo Diddley, blues troubadour Keb Mo’, Primus mastermind Les Claypool, Santiago and Dave Lovering of The Pixies, Jackson Browne, and many other, McFadden has also recorded several independently produced solo and band albums.
McFadden toured Europe, Japan, Australia and the U.S. as mandolinist/guitarist with Funk legend George Clinton & Parliament/Funkadelic for over three years, and continues to collaborate with Clinton on outside projects. He is also a member of The Stockholm Syndrome which features Widespread Panic’s Dave Schools on bass, Wally Ingram (Sheryl Crow) on drums, Danny Louis (Gov’t Mule) on keys and Jerry Joseph on vocals and guitar.
In addition to opening for J Mascis and The Fog, McFadden will also play a special late night show at the Sitzmark after the main concert at the Daylodge. Tickets for the late night show are $5 and the shows are for ages 21 and over. Tickets for Alyeska concerts can be purchased online at the resort website, at the Sitzmark or any Alyeska Ticket Office and by phone at 907-754-2275.
