April 26, 2011 (Girdwood, Alaska) – Even in a less than average snow season, Alyeska Resort still logged close to 500” of total snowfall at its upper mountain measuring station. This snowpack translates into an “endless winter” campaign with skiing and riding available on Fridays, Saturdays and Sundays from May 6th through Memorial Day Monday, May 30th.
Operations will be weather dependant and the resort encourages guests to check the SKISNOW Hotline (907-754-7669) each morning before heading to the slopes. Ski and snowboard enthusiasts will load the aerial tram and have access to on and off-piste terrain from Chair 6. Day tickets will be available at a discounted rate. Lift ticket rates for May skiing are as follows: Adults ($40), Students/Seniors 60-69/Military/College ($35), Child 6-12 ($30), Senior 70+ ($15), and Child 5 & Under (Free). The Tram will operate from 11:00 A.M. to 5:00 P.M.
Current 2010/11 season pass holders can ski in May for free. In addition, new or renewing 2011/12 season pass holders will also receive the benefit of May skiing. 2011/12 season passes will go on sale at the Tram Ticket Office and online starting May 1st. From The Hotel Alyeska, guests can rent demo and regular ski and snowboard equipment rentals at the rental shop. The Mountain Learning Center will be offering private lessons for intermediate level and above for $60 per hour. Reservations are highly recommended and can be made at the Tram Ticket Office in person or by calling 907-754-2275.
The Sitzmark Bar & Grill will also be extending its season into May and will be open Friday to Sunday from May 6th through Memorial Day Monday, May 30th. There will be live local music featured on Friday and Saturday nights with bands starting at 9:00 P.M. for guests ages 21 and over. The Sitzmark will be open at 11:00 A.M.
