Portage Glacier: Begich-Boggs Visitor Center

The Begich Boggs Visitor Center lies about twelve miles south of Alyeska Resort at the end of the scenic Turnagain Arm. Built on the remnants of a terminal moraine left by the Portage Glacier, learn about glacier formation and geological history through a variety of exhibits. The award-winning film, “Voices from the Ice” is shown hourly, providing a spectacular view of many glaciers and wildlife. The Visitor Center currently houses exhibits demonstrating “glaciers on the move,” in sighting the retreat of the Portage Glacier. Due to its retreat, Portage Glacier is no longer visible from the Visitor Centre, yet the face of the glacier is still partially within Portage Lake.
