The Skybridges are open during the Alaskan summer where the midnight sun gives life to the breathtaking seasonal flora and fauna. Connected by the peaks of Alyeska Mountain, Mighty Mite and Glacier Bowl, the experience spans two bridges with views of Turnagain Arm, monumental glaciers and the deep green of the Chugach boreal forest. The Skybridges connect explorers with their sense of adventure and the beauty of Alaska’s landscape.

POV of walking across one of the Veilbreaker Skybridges at Alyeska Resort

What to Expect

A guided tour through the expanse of Alaska’s wilderness – from a bird’s eye view. The Veilbreaker Skybridges experience will take you on an exhilarating journey with tram rides to mountain summits, and powerful vistas seen from harrowing heights and stories.

The experience begins with a tram ride to the Mighty Mite summit where Alyeska’s Mountain Guides will take you on a 20-30 minute hike to the Veilbreaker Skybridges from the Mountain Concierge. If you’d rather not hike, you can enjoy a ride on our ATV that can fit up to 4 guests. Following safety training, you’ll be geared up with a harness and helmet to begin your journey across two bridges connecting three mountain peaks. Explorers of any skill level can experience the Veilbreaker Skybridges and the intentionally small Explorer group of up to 10 people per guide allow you to set your own pace.

After crossing the second bridge, explorers are returned to the beginning of the Veilbreaker Skybridges. From there, they will depart on the tram, taking them back to the valley floor.

The experience will change your connection to adventure forever.

Please arrive 1 hour before the scheduled tour start time in order to go over the safety briefing and instructions.

Frequently Asked Questions

What time of year are the bridges open?

The Veilbreaker Skybridges are typically open from July to September, as long as weather conditions allow.

How do I access it?

Veilbreaker is a guided tour only and access to the bridges will only be allowed with an Alyeska guide as part of a paid tour. Venue access is via the Mighty Mite hiking trail to the Christmas/New year’s Chute entry.

What if I feel anxiety crossing the bridge?

Anxiety can be a normal reaction to pushing your limits both physically and mentally. First, don’t worry, you’re harnessed in and totally safe. To overcome fear and anxiety, slow down, take deep breaths and close your eyes. Focus on slowing your breathing and lowering your heart rate, this technique is called box breathing. Once you’re ready, continue onward, and remember, YOU GOT THIS!

Can I take a selfie on the bridges?

Of course! A couple of things to note: we recommend bringing a bungee or tether for your phone. If you drop your phone, there’s no way to retrieve it. Please hold on tight, as your phone is unlikely to survive the fall.

What if there is bad weather on the day of my reservation?

Weather is always a potential when recreating in the mountains of Alaska and it’s something we take very seriously. We have an operational threshold for cancellation which includes high wind, rain, lightning and snow. In the event of a cancellation, we will do our best to move you to a different day during your stay. If we are not able to get you on a tour, we will refund your payment.

What do I need to bring?

Ensure you’re ready for the adventure with a windproof/rainproof jacket, layered clothing, a compact backpack, water, and a snack. Please note that this tour involves hiking across uneven and slippery terrain, so proper footwear is crucial. We’ll provide all the necessary gear except for a tethered device for your cameras and phones – make sure it’s connected before we set off. Your safety and enjoyment are our top priorities!

How long is each bridge?

The Christmas Bridge is 177′ and the New Years Bridge is 233′ for a total length of 410′.

Can I do just one bridge?

Certainly! If you’re more at ease crossing just one bridge, you have the option to hike back after you’ve crossed the first bridge.

Can I do it without a tour?

No, we require you to be on a tour with one of our guides on staff.

I am travelling by myself, can I go alone?

Of course! We have guides on staff daily so if you’re a party of one we can absolutely make a tour happen for you.

Can I come to watch and not do the bridge?

To ensure the safety of all guests, only Veilbreaker ticket holders are permitted to join the guided hike portion of the tour.

Is it an extra cost to be driven to the bridge?

Yes, should you or your group need to be driven to the venue, there is a $50 charge per vehicle load. We can take up to five people per vehicle.

Is there maximum weight limit?

Although the bridges are weight tested for thousands of pounds, there is a weight limit of no more than 3 people or 800 lbs on the bridge at any given time. The minimum individual weight allowed is 90 lbs and the maximum is 265 lbs.

Can I go at the same time as someone else?

No more than two people can be on the bridge at one time. Solo crossings are welcomed but we also understand that some people would like a friend or loved one by their side to share the experience with.

Is there hiking on this tour?

Yes, there are moderate to steep sections of hiking on the tour. Participants should be prepared with proper footwear to hike in a mountain environment. If hiking isn’t your preference, take advantage of our 4 ATVs available for rides.
