ABOUT GREAT AMERICAN TAXI
Great American Taxi was founded in 2005 by Chad Staehly and Vince Herman as a one-off band for a Rain Forest Action Group benefit show in Boulder, CO, and there was never a plan beyond that. Now 20 years later, Staehly remains as the sole founding member who started in the band on that spring March day in Boulder. He always jokes that the band has lived up to its’ Taxi moniker, picking up players along the way and dropping them off somewhere down the line. The band has always remained true to their Americana and Jam roots as the players have come and gone. With four albums to their credit and being well past the 1000 show mark on their odometer, the band is happy to be celebrating 20 years in 2025.
Jim Lewin from Santa Cruz, CA has handled lead guitar duties in the band since 2008 along with some singing and songwriting. Lewin is a sought after guitar player and studio player up and down the west coast when he’s not touring in his own band, Edge Of The West. Brian Adams has been in the bass guitar seat since 2010 shortly after his Phish cover band Phix started slowing down. Adams has been a fixture on the Front Range of Colorado playing in numerous bands throughout the years on top of all the touring he has done with Taxi. Rounding out the current core line-up is Will Trask on drums. He joined the band in 2015. Like Adams, Trask is a first call drummer and percussionist on the Front Range and plays in multiple bands along with collaborating in special one-off bands for shows throughout the country.
Great American Taxi will be inviting special guests to come along and jam throughout their 20th anniversary year true to Taxi form. You never know who might show up from their collective past to play along on signature GAT songs like “American Beauty” as well as dipping into a well of songs from some of their biggest influences like the Grateful Dead, The Band, Little Feat, and more. The core mission has always been the same, to play American roots music and have a ton of fun. Hop aboard and take a little ride!
